Joints, Spliffs, Blunts and Pre-Rolls
Four words for rolled cannabis get used as if they meant the same thing. They do not. The difference is the wrap and what goes inside it.
Joint: ground cannabis flower rolled in thin paper, and nothing else.
Spliff: a joint with tobacco mixed in with the cannabis.
Blunt: cannabis rolled in a cigar or tobacco-leaf wrap, thicker and slower-burning, with a taste of its own. Hemp wraps give the blunt shape without the tobacco.
Pre-roll: a joint that arrives ready-made, rolled by the producer and sold by weight.
Pre-roll or blunt
A plain pre-roll is flower alone, rolled and ready. On our menu, blunts are listed with the infused pre-rolls: they carry added concentrate as well as flower.
Infused pre-rolls
An infused pre-roll adds concentrate to the flower, commonly kief, hash, rosin, distillate or a coating of diamonds and sauce, raising its potency above what flower alone delivers. It is a separate category for a reason: a different strength and a different price, so check which one you are picking up.
Rolling a joint
Grind the flower evenly, fill the paper without packing it, roll it tight enough to hold its shape, and seal the edge. A filter tip, or crutch, at the mouth end keeps it from collapsing.
Reading the label
A pre-roll is labeled like flower, with the cannabinoid results the lab measured. An infused pre-roll is tested with its concentrate in it, so expect its THC to be higher.
